

Introduction
The EdUHK General Education Programme prepares students to be active agents of change, by broadening their intellectual horizons, helping them make connections among different areas of knowledge between their formal studies and life outside the classroom, and strengthening their capacity for sound thinking and good judgement. It offers a varied but balanced mix of individual courses across a range of subject areas and disciplines, set within an integrated structure of General Education Foundation Course, General Education Breadth Courses, Experiential Learning and University ePortfolio.
General Education Foundation Course
- 4 credit points
- Compulsory
- To be taken in the first year of study
- Medium of Instruction: English

General Education Breadth Courses are composed of 3 components:

1a General Education Breadth Learning Strands (1-3) (GELS) Courses [for cohort 2023/24 or before]
- One GELS Course from Strands 1 to 3 (3 credit points)
- Normally to be taken upon the completion of the General Education Foundation Course (GEFC) in Year 1.
- Medium of Instruction: English/ Chinese
1b New Six Arts (NSA) Courses [for cohort 2024/25 and onwards]
- One complete set of NSA Courses (a total of 3 credit points), including one 2-credit-point course and one corresponding 1-credit-point course in the same course set within the same semester.
- Normally to be taken upon the completion of the GEFC in Year 1.
- Students are also allowed to take the NSA Courses concurrently with the GEFC in Year 1 Semester 2 if they are interested and their curriculum schedules allow.
- Year 1 students who have been granted credit transfer for the GEFC (due to change of programme within EdUHK) can start taking the NSA Courses in Year 1 Semester 1.
- Students cannot take extra NSA Course(s) as elective(s).
- Medium of Instruction: English/ Chinese
2 Positive and Values Education (PAVE) Courses
- One PAVE Course (3 credit points)
- Normally to be taken upon the completion of the GEFC in Year 1.
- Students are also allowed to take the PAVE Course concurrently with the GEFC in Year 1 Semester 2 if they are interested and their curriculum schedules allow.
- Year 1 students who have been granted credit transfer for the GEFC (due to change of programme within EdUHK) can start taking the PAVE Course in Year 1 Semester 1.
- Medium of Instruction: English/ Chinese
3 General Education Interdisciplinary Courses (GEICs)
- One GEIC (3 credit points)
- To be taken from Year 2 Semester 2 to Year 3 Semester 1.
- To be taken after completion of any PAVE Course or GELS (Strands 1-3) or one complete set of NSA Courses (No pre-requisite for Senior Year Entrants).
- Students cannot take extra GEIC(s)as elective(s).

Remarks:
# BSocSc(Psychology) (A4B075) students admitted in 2021/22 have already taken 3 cps of ELC on E&I in 2022/23 and therefore do not need to take another 3 cps of ELC.
@ Senior Year Entry students (admitted in 2023/24) from BA(Early Childhood and Family Studies) (A2B102), BSocSc(Social Entrepreneurship and Development Studies) (A2B103), BA(English Studies and Digital Communication) (A4B093), BSc(Artificial Intelligence and Educational Technology) (A4B095), and BSc(Sports Science and Coaching) (A4B096) are required to take 3 cps of ELC on E&I in the assigned semester in the entry year. Please consult your programme office for your study sequence in GE.
* Senior Year Entry students from BSc(Executive Management) (A2B104) and BA(Heritage Education and Arts Management) (A4B097) will not be required to take ELC on E&I.
University ePortfolio
- 3 credit points

- Medium of Instruction: English
- To be taken after completion of all General Education Breadth Courses required
- Students have to take the University ePortfolio course in the study semester assigned by individual programmes as follows^:
BEd/Double Degree programmes: Year 4 Semester 1 Non-BEd programmes: Year 3 Semester 2 (Senior Year Entry: Year 4 Semester 1)
