From 2024/25 and onwards, a new common core component, the New Six Arts, will be incorporated into the General Education curriculum to replace the existing General Education Breadth Learning Strands (Strands 1-3).
Course Synopsis
- Demonstrate the evolution and heritage of the Six Arts from the past to the present by comparing with Western/ global/ regional counterparts;
- Enable students to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of traditional Chinese culture and history, equipping them with the necessary life skills and values to meet contemporary societal needs;
- Widen students’ horizons and enrich their learning experiences by strengthening external collaborations for experiential learning.
Course Structure
- Students (in cohorts 2023/24 and before) who have not taken any GELS (Strands 1-3) by then can take the New Six Arts courses to fulfil the original GELS requirements.
- The New Six Arts courses will adopt a 2+1 cp structure. Students have to take ONE 2-cp course and ONE corresponding 1-cp course from the same New Six Arts course set within the same semester.
- Students are allowed to take ONE complete set of the New Six Arts courses. The extra New Six Arts course(s) could NOT be taken as Elective(s).
