GE Foundation Course
The General Education Foundation Course is a 3-credit-point course that will run for the whole academic year and be taken by all first-year students at EdUHK. This course will equip students with diverse knowledge and skills for intellectual and professional development in local, national, and global contexts. Semester 1 consists of lectures and/or workshops on selected themes and topics (e.g. University Life Planning, Professionalism and Professional Ethics, Research and Inquiry, Basic Law, Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Entrepreneurship Education, and Caring Culture, etc.). In Semester 2, students will be introduced to a wide variety of themes and issues in general education (e.g. Developments in the Greater Bay Area, Well-being, Digital Humanities, Financial Security, Cultural Sustainability, Cyber Security, Civic Rights and Responsibilities under National Security Law, Constitution and Basic Law, Green Energy Solutions for Sustainable Development, and Climate Change, etc.) by taking part in the lectures delivered by Chair Professors / Professors and external Guest Lecturers. These lectures are substantiated by small class tutorials for building communities of dialogue and inquiry that foster students' intellectual growth as reflective thinkers, deliberating issues of importance to their lives, society, and the world.
In addition to the face-to-face lectures, video lectures will be arranged as appropriate to allow students to conduct self-regulated learning. As a unique feature of the course, students will submit a reflective entry of their learning experiences as a part of the ePortfolio. The online learning activities and tasks will encourage students to reflect and think critically on various themes and issues based on learning artefacts and experiences, thereby charting the paths for their personal, intellectual, and professional development.

Lectures (in Semester 1 and 2) (1.5 hours per week):
The lectures will be delivered by eminent scholars and practitioners, introducing students to various disciplines and topics across different domains. In addition to face-to-face lectures, video lectures will be arranged as appropriate. For the video lecture weeks, students will not be required to attend the face-to-face lectures and tutorials. Instead, students must watch a video lecture, read supplementary resources, complete online assessment tasks, and participate in online discussion forums based on the suggested inquiry questions.
Tutorials* (*Semester 2) (2 hours per week):
The tutorials will be small-class environments where students sharpen their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Students will also learn to think critically about the issues presented in the lectures. These activities will enable students to understand the course content better and construct/ reflect on their interpretations. Students interact with tutors regularly and will be trained to improve their communication skills and nurture tolerant, critical yet constructive attitudes towards various academic arguments and debates.
Remarks:
*The General Education Foundation Course tutorials will be held on Tai Po Campus and at Tseung Kwan O Study Centre. Students have to attend tutorials at one of the locations as assigned.
