Introducing New Six Arts Courses –
A New Component in General Education Breadth Courses (GEBCs) from 2024/25 and onwards

Introducing the New Six Arts aims to enable students to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture and history, equipping them with the necessary life skills and values to meet societal needs. Students are encouraged to take the New Six Arts course set that they are interested in.

The 2 + 1 cp structure will be adopted for the New Six Arts courses. Students have to register for ONE complete course set (ONE 2-cp course and ONE 1-cp course in the same course set) in the same semester to fulfill the GELS course requirement.

Please note that some students do not necessarily take GELS-NSA courses, including:
  • Students who have been granted credit transfer for GELS/ GELS-NSA course upon admission;
  • Students (admitted in 2023/24 or before) who have been granted credit transfer for the GELS course upon completion of the “Student Exchange Programme” (SEP);
  • Students (admitted in 2023/24 or before) who have already fulfilled the GELS requirement by taking GELS Strands 1-3 (course code: GEF/GEG/GEH) before 2024/25.

Students are NOT allowed to take any extra GELS-NSA course(s) as elective(s). The extra GELS-NSA course(s) will be treated as unused course(s) and excluded from the GPA calculation. Students who are not required to take GELS-NSA course(s) but enrolled during the online add/drop period will be de-registered from the course(s).

If you have not fulfill the GELS requirement before, please enroll during the course add/drop period from 12 October 2024 to 15 October 2024 (the start time and end time are different among programmes and students).
